Ok this review summarized my thoughts while reading the last 3 volumes orso of this series: Damn what an ending. And there is kind of open ending (even if the story is satisfyingly closed) but I hope there will be not a sequel. I liked the plot, the idea is good and it is well used.
#WAY TO THE WOODS SERIES#
It held me to this series (not strongly, but it kept my attention while I was reading) and kept me entertained, unlike the characters. Most of all it was true to the characters and it did not disturb the story. To conclude The Woods - I struggled a bit with the art, but it's a decent one and I found scenes and pictures which I liked. Decent, not senselessly epic, kind of happy (and open) ending. (4 of 5 for a decent ending, which leaves me with good memory on The Woods) That was nice. (I know, woods puns, but they went there too so I'm just jumping on the bandwagon). We're out of The Woods, but we're not the same people we were when we went in, and I know I for one am better for having read this series. The difference between the Woods and Earth is also very well done through Dialynas's use of colour. Michael Dialynas goes super-overboard for these last four issues, pulling out all the stops for the sheer amount of characters in panel, but not scrimping out on the emotional panels with just characters talking. It's nice that we get some answers to how and why everything links together, from the Horde to the Black City and beyond, but it's not as important as getting closure on these characters and their stories. From the beginning, this series has been about the characters and their journey, even moreso than the insanity of the Woods themselves. Tynion makes these last four issues intensely personal to the point that the final war going on around the last hurrah to try and get home almost fades into the background.Īnd really, that makes sense. The characters of The Woods have always been super compelling, but seeing how far they've come in 36 issues is ridiculous, and I didn't want to leave them just yet.
